Javier Bardem in ‘Biutiful’

EPA/JUAN HERREROVariety reports the film was written by Gonzalez Inarritu, and is scheduled to start production next week in Barcelona.The film follows a man on the wrong side of the law confronted by a childhood friend who is now a cop.Arriaga and Gonzalez Inarritu shot to fame in Mexico thanks to the 2000’s "Amores perros" and the English language Hollywood films "21 Grams" and "Babel." The two fell out due to an argument over writing credits on the three films."Biutiful" is scheduled to be produced by Fernando Bovaira's Mod shingle and Cha Cha Cha – the company Gonzalez Inarritu is part of with Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro.
