Ashton Kutcher has signed to handle the role of a former hit man for Lionsgate upcoming action comedy “Five Killers” with director Robert Luketic.
Variety reports the film is scheduled to start production early in 2009. The studio picked up the project based on a spec script by Bob DeRosa, and tapped Ted Griffin to do a rewrite.
It will be produced by Scott Aversano with Kutcher and Jason Goldberg. Executive producing chores will be handled by Michael Paseornek and John Sacchi.
Lionsgate is set to handle distribution in North America, the U.K. and Australia. Mandate Intl. will handle the sell of all remaining world territories for the film at AFM.
In the film, Kutcher will take on the role of a hit man whose life gets turned upside down when he is put on a hit list by someone from his past. He then has to deal with a group of killers paid to put him in the grave.
Luketic scored big with his film "21," and just finished shooting “The Ugly Truth” with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
Kutcher’s last trip to the big screen was the romance comedy "What Happens in Vegas."
