David Cronenberg is in talks to handling directing duties for MGM’s upcoming political thriller "The Matarese Circle" with Denzel Washington attached to star. David Cronenberg could be set to enter the world of spies with Denzel Washington.

David Cronenberg could be set to enter the world of spies with Denzel Washington. David Cronenberg - BFI 51st London Film Festival: Eastern Promises - Opening Gala - London - London, England © Solarpix / PR PhotosVariety reports the film is based on the Robert Ludlum novel, and set during the Cold War. It follows two men (an American and a Soviet) who have to work together to stop a plot to topple the world’s governments. The film adaptation is written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("3:10 to Yuma"), and will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Nick Wechsler and Jeffrey Weiner. It is scheduled to start shooting in the spring and has been fast-tracked by MGM.Cronenberg last directed the Russian mob film "Eastern Promises."
