Hilary Swank to star in ‘Betty Anne Waters’

Hilary Swank has signed to star in Tony Goldwyn’s drama "Betty Anne Waters."Variety reports the film will be financed through Omega Entertainment (who will also distribute the flick worldwide). The script was written by Pamela Gray and is scheduled to start shooting in January with locations in Michigan.Andrew Sugerman ("Shopgirl") is set to produce with Andrew S. Karsch ("The Prince of Tides") and Goldwyn. Swank is set to executive produce the film.Swank is set to take the title role in the film - a high school dropout who works her way through law school to help get her wrongly convicted brother out of jail.Her brother had been framed for murder and now it is up to her to get through college and law school so she can represent him after he has used up his appeals through public defenders. She also has to balance raising her kids while trying to get through school.The film was originally set up at Universal and Working Title, and was set to star Naomi Watts. The project stalled and was picked up by Omega Entertainment. Swank recently appeared on the big screen in the romance drama "P.S., I Love You," and will return as famed aviator Amelia Earhart Mira Nair’s biopic "Amelia."The actress has also been busy with her producing partner Molly Smith with several projects acquired – including "Something Borrowed" and "French Woman Don’t Get Fat."
