“Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves has signed on to write and direct the vampire flick “Let the Right One In” for Hammer Films and Overture Films. The movie is a remake of the Tomas Alfredson's Swedish film "Lat Den Ratte Komma In."
Variety reports the vampire film will be the first movie in a two-picture deal between Overture and HS Media (the parent of Hammer and Spitfire Films). The deal is for co-production, financing and distribution of the two films.
The film is based on the novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, and follows a young boy who becomes friends with a female neighbor who moves to town.
Hammer picked up the remake rights to the film at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. At the festival, the Swedish version won the Founders Award for narrative feature. Overture is scheduled to release the remake in 2009.
"Let the Right One In" is set to be produced by Hammer's Simon Oakes with Spitfire's Guy East and Nigel Sinclair. It will also be produced by Swedish producers John Nordling and Carl Molinder. Executive producing duties are handled by Spitfire's Alex Brunner and Tobin Armbrust with John Ptak, Philip Elway and Fredrik Malmberg.
Reeves is currently at work on "Invisible Woman." The film is described as a dramatic thriller that looks at the mind of a housewife involved in crime. In addition to “Cloverfield,” Reeves directed "The Pallbearer" and the TV series "Felicity."
