Ray Winstone to replace Robert De Niro on ‘Edge of Darkness’

Ray Winstone is in talks to replace Robert De Niro on Martin Campbell’s "Edge of Darkness" with Mel Gibson.

British actor Ray Winstone arrives for the European film premiere of direcor Robert Zemeckis' new film 'Beowulf' held at the Vue Leicester Square in Central London 11 November 2007. In a legendary time of heroes, the mighty warrior Beowulf (Ray Winstone) battles the demon Grendel (Crispin Glover) and incurs the wrath of the beast's ruthlessly seductive mother (Angelina Jolie). Their epic clash forges the timeless legend of Beowulf. director Robert Zemeckis offers a unique vision of the Beowulf saga which stars Ray Winstone in the title role and Anthony Hopkins as the corrupt King Hrothgar. EPA/DANIEL DEMEVariety reports De Niro left the film over “creative differences” (Daily Variety, Sept. 5) after being on set for two days. The movie is produced by Graham King's GK Films, and shooting started in Massachusetts on Aug. 18th.Winstone would handle the role of a government operative sent to clean up the evidence after a woman is murdered. Gibson plays her father who is a cop wanting answers after she is shot on his doorstep.The film will also feature Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic. It is based on a 1985 BBC miniseries that Campbell directed. Producing duties are handled by King, Michael Wearing and the BBC.
