Tom Cruise and United Artist pick up ‘The Monster of Florence’

Tom Cruise and United Artists have picked up the film rights to the thriller "The Monster of Florence." Cruise is attached to produce the film, and could possible star. The crimes (which reportedly were part of the inspiration for Thomas Harris’ "Hannibal") are believed to be the work of one killer and took place between 1968 and 1985 in and around Florence. Preston (who wrote the thriller “The Relic”) is reported as stating: "It's the biggest movie deal in my life." United Artists has yet to comment on the movie deal or Cruise’s involvement in the film. The script will reportedly be written by Chris McQuarrie ("Valkyrie") – with Cruise a possible to star if he likes the script.
