Robert De Niro splits from Martin Campbell’s ‘Edge of Darkness’

Robert De Niro has split from director Martin Campbell’s “Edge of Darkness” – which Graham King's GK Films started shooting in Massachusetts on Aug. 18th. Robert De Niro - AGO Grand Opening Celebration with Robert De Niro at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas - Hard Rock Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas, NV, USA © PRN / PR PhotosVariety reports the legendary actor had just arrived on the set of the film this week, and was set to handle the role of an operative sent to clean up the evidence in the murder of a young woman. The film also stars Mel Gibson as the victim's father who is also a homicide detective for the Boston Police Department. Gibson’s character discovers his daughter’s secret life and that her death was part of a corporate/government cover-up.In Variety, a spokesman for De Niro stated: "Sometimes things don't work out; it's called creative differences." The film also stars Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic. Campbell reportedly plans to shoot around De Niro’s character until they can cast a replacement for the actor.The film is based on a miniseries that aired on BBC in 1985 which Campbell directed. It features a script from William Monahan.
