Scott Steindorff's Stone Village has picked up the action thriller spec script "Lobo" by Dikran Ornekian and Ryan Colluci. The film follows a colony of werewolves in Brazil, and will be directed by Ezna Sands.
Variety reports Stone Village has fast-tracked the film for an Oct. 15 production start. It will have locations outside Rio de Janeiro, and will have a budget under-$15 million. International sales are going to be handled by Essential Entertainment.
“Lobo” will be produced by Steindorff with Dylan Russell handling executive producing duties. It has started casting.
The film follows a man on a journey to discover his heritage. After finding photos and letters in his mother’s will, he travels to a town in the Amazon. Once there, he stumbles upon a group of werewolves, and a battle for survival.
In Variety, Sands stated: "The stylized nature of the film is what drew me, because it's far less a monster movie than a Western in the mold of Sergio Leone's 'Once Upon a Time in America. I have the opportunity to bring back to audience the kind of hero they had in the '70s, someone as dark and conflicted as the new James Bond or the Dark Knight. Our intention is to tell a single story over three films, and this first chapter is a guy who makes a massive revelation."
