Variety reports the series follows six children who have been genetically altered to be a mixture of human and bird. The children escape the lab and are tracked by their scientist creators. The scientist use Erasers (part-human part-wolves) to hunt the kids.
Patterson’s fifth book in the series is set to be released in 2009. Producing duties on the film will be handled by Seaside Entertainment’s Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will produce. Patterson has signed to be an executive producer on the film.
In Daily Variety, Avi Arad stated: "The ‘Maximum Ride’ books use man-made mutation as a metaphor of humans trying to take advantage of human frailty and interfere with nature."
