Ang Lee’s ‘Taking Woodstock’ to start production

Focus Features is set to start production later this month on the Ang Lee directed "Taking Woodstock" from a screenplay by James Schamus. The film will star Emile Hirsch, Imelda Staunton and Liev Schreiber. Ang Lee - The Museum of Moving Image Honors Matt Blank and James Schamus - St. Regis Hotel - New York City, NY, USA © Sylvain Gaboury / PR Photos Variety reports the movie is an adaptation of the memoir of Elliot Tiber – who helped with the 1969 music festival that was held on his neighbor's farm.Focus was reportedly debating postponing the production start due to concerns about the Screen Actors Guild strike. The studio is moving forward on the film with the idea there are plans in the event of a strike.Demetri Martin will handle the role of Tiber - an aspiring interior designer in Greenwich Village who has to run his family’s Catskills motel. In summer 1969, he volunteered the motel to be the home base for Woodstock concert organizers after Max Yasgur makes his farm available for the event.Staunton and Henry Goodman have signed to play Tiber's parents, and Jonathan Groff will play Woodstock organizer Michael Lang. Hirsch has signed for the role of a Vietnam vet, Eugene Levy will play Yasgur, and Schreiber is in talks to play a transvestite named Vilma.
