Trudie Styler's Xingu Films has picked up the rights to the upcoming graphic novel "American Reaper" from Pat Mills and Clint Langley.
Styler and Alex Francis are set to produce the film for Xingu ("Moon," "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints") and Repeat Offenders' Jeremy Davis is set to handle executive producing duties, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The plot is set in the future where identity theft causes victims to have their minds erased and replaced by those of the elderly rich seeking a second youth or by criminals and terrorists. A group of special agents, called Reapers, are assembled to find the criminals and terminate them.
In The Hollywood Reporter, Styler stated: "It's rare for us to sign up to a project based on just a proposal, but the opportunity to work with proven talent like Pat and Clint from such an early stage, on a project with so much potential, was just too good to pass up."
So far, cast and direct have yet to be hired, but the film is expected to have a $50 million-plus budget. Mills (who has worked on other graphic novels such as “Judge Dread”) is expected to write the screen adaptation.
