MGM is set to remake “RoboCop” and has tapped Darren Aronofsky to direct the film and David Self to write the new screenplay.

Variety reports MGM has fast-tracked "RoboCop" for a 2010 release, and the film will become the first possible tentpole for the studio since Mary Parent took charge in March.
Aronofsky has been interested in the project for some time, but the film’s plot is being kept secret. It is believed the film will move in a more noir direction instead of the straight-up sci-fi vigilante action of the first film.
Phoenix Pictures' Mike Medavoy (who helped bring the original “RoboCop” to the screen 21 years ago for Orion) has signed to produce the new film with Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and David Thwaites.
The original “RoboCop” followed a fatally wounded cop who is transformed into a cyborg cop to help put down the crime in Detroit, Michigan. The film spawned two big screen sequels, four television series, and two comic book adaptations.
Aronofsky ("Pi," "Requiem for a Dream") is at work on "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.
