The Dark Knight destroys another box office record

Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' continued its destruction of the box office record books by becoming the quickest film domestically to gross $200 million. The film starring the late Heath Ledger added an extra $20.87 million on Tuesday pushing its US total to $203.77. It has taken 'The Dark Knight' just five days to reach the $200 box office landmark.

The previous record was eight days, which was a crown shared by 'Spider-Man 2', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' and 'Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith'.So far 'The Dark Knight' has not lost any box office steam while playing through a non-holiday week. This makes the films record even more impressive. 'The Dark Knight' is now just less than $2 million short of out grossing the previous film, 'Batman Begins' which took a US total of $205.3 million. It will pass that number today (Wednesday) and will then likely end this coming weekend with another record, the quickest movie to $300 million.'The Dark Knight' opened in the US last friday and opens across the United Kingdom from tomorrow, July 24th. 'The Dark Knight' will open to the rest of the world throughout the rest of July and August.
