MGM has picked up the thriller "The Cabin in the Woods" written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. The studio has tapped Goddard to direct the film with Whedon signed to handle producing duties.
Variety reports the film will be the first movie the studio has given the greenlight to under new head Mary Parent.
Goddard has worked as a writer and executive producer for ABC’s smash hit series "Lost" and wrote the screenplay for the monster flick "Cloverfield." He also showed his writing talent on ABC’s “Alias.”
Goddard and Whedon have worked together on Whedon’s television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and on its spinoff "Angel." Whedon is set to return to the world of television with the new series “Dollhouse” - set to premiere on Fox in 2009.
