‘300’ to march into theaters again

Legendary Pictures confirmed a follow-up to "300" is in the works for Warner Bros. with Frank Miller writing the story and Zack Snyder in talks to direct. 300 followed the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller. The film was a retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army.

Variety reports Miller is at work on a graphic novel which the film will be based on, but it is not known if it is a prequel or sequel to the original story. Given that many of the main characters (including Gerard Butler's King Leonidas) died in the original film a sequel would almost have to feature new characters – which means a prequel might be easier if the goal is to have Leonidas again.

Snyder has yet to confirm his involvement in the follow-up until he sees what Miller’s new tale is about, but fans are buzzing about him returning to the director’s chair for the film.Legendary (which co-financed and produced Snyder's "Watchmen" for Warners) has stated a follow-up film to “300” is a major priority for the studio.In Variety, Legendary’s Thomas Tull stated: "The vision of Frank Miller's universe that Zack Snyder brought to the screen in '300' is unlike anything ever seen before. We want to be certain that the story originates with Frank and be as compelling as the first."
A follow-up to “300” has been rumored for some time, but it could prove difficult to create the same magic and success the first film managed to capture – thanks to many of the heroes of the first film dying.Legendary is hoping the sword-and-sandals market holds strong with other projects in the work for the genre. The studio is working on a new version of "Clash of the Titans" for Warners with "The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier signed to direct.
