Sam Raimi developing The Given Day for Columbia

"Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi is developing the screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel "The Given Day" for Columbia. Raimi will produce the film with Josh Donen and handle directing duties. He is also at work on a reinvention of the Jack Ryan franchise for Paramount.Dennis Lehane’s novels have a proven track record in Hollywood thanks to adaptations such as Clint Eastwood’s "Mystic River," and Ben Affleck’s "Gone Baby Gone." Martin Scorsese is at work on the adaptation of Lehane’s "Shutter Island" with Leonardo DiCaprio."The Given Day" is set in 1919 Boston, and follows the events that have left the city in turmoil. WWI soldiers have returned home, but brought back an epidemic of Spanish influenza, and the police department is about to strike following attempts to unionize.
