Katherine Heigl has signed to star in and produce the film adaptation of Carolyn Jessop’s bestselling memoir "Escape." Jessop’s testimony helped convict polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs.
Variety reports Relevant Entertainment and Como Court Prods. picked up the film rights to the book.
The film will be produced by Michael Menchel and Cat Williams with Nancy Heigl. Equity financier Como Court Prods. is handling the cost to develop the film’s script.
Jessop grew up in the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints sect, and was married at 18 to a man 32 years older than her. At age 35, she fled the sect with her eight children.
Heigl is currently shooting the Robert Luketic’s comedy “The Ugly Truth” for Sony and Lakeshore.
