The Three Musketeers are returning to the big screen with a new movie from Millennium Films. The film will be set in the 1600s and will focus on the early days of the legendary swordsmen Athos, Porthos and Aramis.

Swordsman D'Artagnan, who became the fourth member of the group, will reportedly make an appearance towards the end of the film or be saved for a second installment of the franchise.
Variety reports Alexandre Dumas' “The Three Musketeers” novel is in the public domain. The film will be produced by Millennium's Joe Gatta and Boaz Davidson with Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort and Trevor Short executive producing.
The new project fits Millennium's slate of developing movies from known properties with a built-in audience. The company has new films in the works based on Robert E. Howard-created Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja characters. Production is also in development for Hercules and Buck Rogers.
In Variety, Gatta stated: "There aren't many branded properties like this out there, and it is a seller's market for the high-profile ones. You can either build one from scratch or find the ones that are available and of interest to audiences, which we did with Conan and Buck Rogers."
The studio has also started work on another Rambo tale after the most recent adventure of the hero brought in $100 million worldwide earlier this year.
