Bret Ratner is in talks to direct the screen adaptation of Valiant’s comic ‘Harbringer’ for Paramount.
Variety reports Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to the Valiant comic series and has plans to turn it into a live-action feature with Ratner directing and producing. Alexandra Milchan and Jay Stern will also produce the feature – which could be released under the MTV Films brand.
The comic was created by Jim Shooter and was a hit for Valiant in the 1990s. The series follows humans with powers that can be unlocked by “omega” harbingers. The conflict comes when teenager Pete Stanchek has to fight another “omega” who uses his powers for evil.
In Variety, Milchan stated: "The movie is in the vein of a young 'Blade Runner,' as this 17-year- old gifted kid helps other kids tap into these parts of their brains."
Ratner has reportedly been shopping around for a super-hero franchise he could start scratch. The film’s screenplay will be written while the director finishes commitments on other projects – such as the Playboy (the Brian Grazer-produced bio-flick on Hugh Hefner for Universal).
