Uma Thurman has signed on to play Nanny in the upcoming Eloise in Paris big screen adaptation of the children's novel series.
Variety reports Thurman’s Nanny character is the caretaker of Eloise – who is the central figure in the popular children’s series by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hillary Knight. The film’s production is set to start in June with location shooting happening in London, Paris and New York.
Eloise in Paris will be directed by Charles Shyer for Handmade Films. Shyer wrote the film’s script with his daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer and Larry Spencer. The studio has hopes the film will launch a franchise series for the Eloise books and is reportedly already working on Eloise Goes to Hollywood.
The film is being produced by Handmade's Patrick Meehan, Thomas D. Adelman and Ron Rotholz. Shyer is handling executive producing duties.
Shyer is now searching for the young actress to step into Eloise’s shoes and reportedly adapted the Nanny role with Thurman in mind for the character.
