Hilary Swank has signed to play Amelia Earhart in director Mira Nair’s upcoming bio-flick Amelia – which was written by Ron Bass.
Variety reports the film will start production in April and will be financed by Ted Waitt through his Avalon Pictures. Swank and Bass will serve as executive producers on the film. Waitt will produce the film with Avalon’s Kevin Hyman and Lydia Dean Pilcher.
In the film, Swank will play Earhart through different parts of her life and her career as a flyer – including her daring nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
Bass turned in his script before the WGA strike and used Susan Butler's book "East to the Dawn," Mary Lovell's "The Sound of the Wings" and Elgin Long's "Amelia Earhart: The Mystery Solved" as research sources.
