Fans hoping to see the live-action appearance of the Justice League on the big screen are going to have to keep hoping. Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the hit comic series Justice League is no longer on the fast track for the studio.

Variety reports the studio let the options lapse on the cast that had been chosen by director George Miller, and announced the high profile film, which had set Tuesday as its greenlight deadline, is now on indefinite hold.
The film isn’t quite dead and could still see development as early as late summer or the fall. The studio told the cast their options would not be exercised, but were also told the studio would eventually make the film with them.
The studio’s reasons for the delay included not receiving the needed tax breaks to shoot in Australia, and the script needing more work (which isn’t possible right now due to the writers strike).
Since the studio has not continued the cast options, they run the risk of losing the actors to other projects. However, most of the cast is expected to make return to the film due to the blockbuster potential of the project
Warner Bros. had set this week as the greenlight deadline due to wanting to get the film into theaters by 2009. The hold on Justice Leage leaves the studio without a major superhero release in its 2009 slate. The next Superman film seems to be stuck in limbo.
