Charlize Theron joins The Road

Charlize Theron is set to join Viggo Mortensen in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's bestselling novel "The Road." The film is being brought to the screen by 2929 Entertainment with Dimension Films set to distribute it domestically. Ortega / PR PhotosVariety reports Theron joined the film due to her love of the book and for the opportunity to work with producer Nick Wechsler again. The two worked together on 2000’s The Yards. She has signed to play Mortensen's wife in the film and will appear mostly in flashback scenes. Wechsler is producing the film with Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz. It is set to start shooting in February.The film’s plot follows a man who begins a nightmarish road trip after a nuclear explosion. He is trying to get his son to safety and is forced to fend off cannibals along the way. John Hillcoat (The Proposition) is directing and Joe Penhall penned the screenplay.
