Phillip Noyce to direct Mary Queen of Scots
By M&C Movie News Jan 9, 2008, 12:03 GMT
Phillip Noyce has signed to direct Mary Queen of Scots which will star Scarlett Johansson. The film is set to start production in April.
The picture will be a biography of the woman who became Scotland's queen at 9 months in 1542 and, later, a rival to the English throne. It will follow Mary (a Roman Catholic) as she is imprisoned for many years on charges of plotting to murder Elizabeth I (a Protestant) and eventually beheaded in 1587.
Variety reports the script was written by James McGovern (Crackers) and the film is being produced by Melanie Johansson and Alexandra Milchan. It will be financed by Capitol Films and Relativity. The movie is scheduled to be shot in London and Scotland.
