no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!! robert pattinson cannot play edward. gaspard ulliel should. it's too weird for edward to be ugly. that won't do. i don't even know if i'll watch the movie anymore. it'll ruin the book. i'm so upset.

I think that he SHOULD NOT portray as Edward. Nobody can ever play as Edward. He's made up and I think that no one can look like him that the book describes Edward. How many people do you know that has topaz(or gold) eyes?
oh woe is me and the same to all the other super fans of twilight, new moon, and eclipse. there is someone out there who would portray edward...it's just not him. i'd have to say henry caril is pretty darn perfect myself...*sigh* life will go on but i really hope that hollywood doesn't completely ruin this amazing thing that stephenie meyer has going on here.
How sad... I do Not think he is gorgeous like I had perceived Edward to be. Is he really gonna be Edward!! Is that decision set in stone? I must admit there are better pictures of him on Google, this image does not do him any justice, but his other images don't make him gorgeous either...

thats rude! Not one actor is going to FIT Edward EXACTLY, but Robert Pattinson is pretty close. Yeah, so what if he's not the best looking guy. thats YOUR opinion. Are you the one Directing the movie? No. If you think that there could be a better edward, than thats your opinion. I think Robert Pattinson is going to do a GREAT job playing Edward. If you don't like that he's going to be playing Edward, then don't go and see the movie. Read the book, and picture your own favorite Edward look a-like in your head. I don't think that they need your opinions when they've OBVIOUSLY chosen an Edward already.

I think Robert Pattison is a great charatcter for Edward Cullen. However I pictured Bella different from Kristen Stewart. I do not think that Gaspard Ulliel would make even a good character for Edward because he looks too young. So whoever said that Ulliel would make a good Edward, your wrong. Again, Kristen Stewart looks nothing like Bella. She looks too old-ish, weird-ish, you know. Oh well, Its not our place to decide. I just hope the movie is as good as the book.
I just wanted to say to the people that are very pissed off: Stephanie Meyer said herself that she was HAPPY that Robert would be playing the part as Edward.
Some facts you might not know:
Robert has read ALL of the Twilight books.
And he's just another huge fan.
She said she was happy, and that she thought that he himself looked like a vampire. And if you've forgotten - There's this thing called Make-up that they use in movies, and sure as heck they'll be using it on Robert to make him more of an Edward.
And shut up about using the fact that you don't like the actor. Go see the movie because you like the BOOK. You can freely be mad if they mess up what happens in the book when it's in movie-form(like leaving important things out) because if they do, I'll be POed.
I'm probably gonna get massive-flaming because of this, but I don't care. You need to stop complaining and realize you won't always get what you want. Do you ACTUALLY think they'd ever find someone who'd portray Edward perfectly? Because even Gaspard - The actor most of you want - Has his draw backs of playing Edward.
I'm just another obsessed Twilight fan, but I'm gonna see the movie whether I like the actors and actresses or not. I'm going to see it because I loved the books.

Ok guys since evryone is putting out their opinions about robert as Edward, well personally i have a gorgeous image of Edward in my head just like most of you who have read the book and felt that he is supposed to be the dreamest thing on the planet like i do. Ok so im gonna say that although jackson rathbone wouldn't make a bad one, i really think that as long as they get robert's looks right(and his EYES.. gold... ) he'll make a great Edward. Robert is an amazing actor and the only thing that most of us are worried about is portraying the image the beautiful and flawless Edward that sit in our minds.. sorry guys but i don't know if that can be done with any actor
So just give Robert a chance..... and i can't wait to see who they cast for Jacob Black...

Yea I KNOW the decison is already made but this is MY opinion and the only way they are putting him in the movie is by putting tons of make up on him b/c i already saw the movie poster.... He's too ugly so they havetta put 2 hours worth of makeup on him.... Gaspard In my opinion is as perfect as we're gonna get, but since that doesn't matter.... I agree that Gaspar Ulliel would be a brilliant actor for the part, but i also believe that Robert Pattinson would be wonderful. He's a fantastic actor, gorgeous to say the least, and i think he can pull off Edwards' sexy, alluring, mysterious ways. So best of luck to Mr. Pattinson.
The actors you have chosen for the movie twilight are not what anyone expected. But they will do. Kristen will do fine for the part and so will Robert. Everyone has their own idea of which actor should portray the characters, and if this is how Stephenie portryas HER charecters SHE made, then they are a good pick. Good luck with the movie!
Hate to burst your bubble, but whoever made that comment about topaz eyes, have you ever wondered what those colored contacts you see the commercials for are?
And, also, even if he doesn't LOOK perfect, the right acting is what matters. They can change absolutely anything about his appearance once the movie is being made either using makeup and stuff like that or video editing.
Either way, I think this guy has the acting skills to play Edward.
The only problem is, he's already established the role of Cedric Diggory, so that's going to be a bit hard to overcome. I think he can pull it off, though.
As for my views on Kristen Stewart, I think she looks good enough. Yes, she does look a little too old, but other then that I believe she's perfect. And, once again, makeup can make her look years younger.
I don't know much about her acting ability (I've never see any of her movies), but I highly doubt that they would cast someone uncapable of acting the part of Bella Swan (they've got hundreds of thousands of actresses in the guild that they were casting from, and I'm sure more then a few wanted this part).
So please, stop your whining. As long as the ACTING is good, appearance doesn't matter in the least. Wait for the movie to come out, go see it, and THEN judge the casting.
Or, if you're really that biased about who should have been casted, then just don't go see it. But don't complain about the cast either if you haven't seen the movie, because then you'll sound like a moron. =)

I really don't care who plays who as long as it's close enough and as long as nothing too big is taken out of the story and if nothing is added. I love the series to death!

So, I feel as if Robert is a good character to potray Edward. No, he's not the most handsome guy in the world but I hear he's a really good actor. I can't wait to see how his eyes are going to turn out. Kristen is a wonderful choice for Bella as well. She was close enough to the image of Bella I have in my head. People seriously, for those who are complaining all your doing is complaining. The choice is made already and there is nothing you can do about it. I have put slot of thought into who I think should play Edward ... No one can really make up every aspect of the most wonderfully written character since Romeo but after seeing some of the photos of robert I have decided he has definate potential ...besides kristen Stewart will make any one look great ...take another look ...you'll see what I mean

First of all, Stephenie Meyer HERSELF liked him as Edward. If he fits the AUTHORS interpretation, then he has to be good!
Some of the still pictures that they have of him aren't necessarily attractive, but on film he's amazing! I loved him as Cedric, and unlike others I CAN see him as something more than that.
They look very good together, (Kristen and Robert) and don't think likewise!
Most of you are just looking for an excuse to hate him--keep in mind that its VERY difficult to cast an actor for a role that's supposed to be 'Perfect'. Besides, everyone has their own interpretation on how Edward looks.
Just give him a break, and if you don't want to watch it, it's up to you. I know I'LL be getting 12 am tickets.
Edward is fine with who they picked and i think he is adorable. I can't wait to see the movie because Robert will be the best vampire in the whole world.
I think hes really cute and will make a perfect Edward.
last night i finished New moon.It only took a day to read and i cant wait to start Eclipse.I have grown so much to love Edward.In my mined i can not picture his face but i can only imagine him to be a beautiful angel...i think Pattinson is perfect for the role has he is also gorgeous

First, Edward is supposed to be 'boyish-looking' and is/looks around 17 years old, so Gaspard being 'too young looking' is not a very good argument for why he doesn't make a good Edward, especially also since Stephenie Meyer wrote herself that they didn't want anyone over 21 for Edward (although I don't think the casting committee followed that...). Even then, as many people before have said already, make-up can do wonders.
Second, Gaspard is a very good actor and is recognized as such by his peers, directors, and quite a few moviegoers. Most people know him probably from 'Hannibal Rising', which with its flawed script/story limited how much of his acting skill showed through. You should see 'Strayed' and 'Le Dernier Jour', and even the little bit he was in 'A Very Long Engagment' to see how 'skilled' he really is and see that the assertion 'obviously not skilled enough' is not correct.
Third, Gaspard mostly likely didn't even audition for the part of Edward as he is in the middle of filming another movie right now and have a couple more lined up afterwards, so he wasn't picked as Edward because he was 'not skilled enough'; he wasn't picked because he didn't audition. This is not to say though that he would have been picked for sure if he did audition. It's just not right to say he isn't skilled enough.
Finally, Edward's appeal has more to do with his attitude and actions than looks. Another description of how he looks (e.g., having brown eyes) would still be uber attractive if he had the same personality. From movies they've done, Gaspard can exude that attitude and so can Robert.
I cannot belive that they are using such an ugly cast for bella and edward, Kristen Stewart is hideouse to me. And what his face wo is playing Edward, NO NO NO! no one can ever play Edward no one will ever be that beautiful, except for the person who is playing carlisle i think he shoulld play edward!!
I think Robert pattinson will be a great Edward! I didnt like it at first and then i watched harry potter and the goblet of fire. And i watched a few things that he did and now i think he's the perfect edward.

You need to make sure you have your information right before posting insulting comments about people who post here and actors. Both Emily Browning and Gaspard Ulliel not only are not Chinese/Asian (Australian and French, respectively), most people think they look far from Chinese/Asian (e.g., big, blue eyes). Also, Bangkok is in Thailand, and it is insulting to people who live there to be called Chinese.
It makes me wonder if you really are Asian and who the 'crazy' one really is on this board.
I am perfectly happy with Robert Pattinson as Edward and Kristed Stewart, so be assured that this is not a reply from an angry Gaspard or Emily fan.
i just really hope that others that wanted the part didnt look as good as Robert or id really hav a heartattack. Really, he's cool, but so not meant to be in this movie. I just hope this movie will turn out as good as the book!
I wasn't entirely set on Robert playing as Edward (in fact I was completely mortified at the thought of it), but I think he could pull it off. At this point, there's no other choice! He's already cast! I'm sure that Steph knew what she was doing and so did the director and castors, so just wiat until you see the film. Make-up can do wonders... =D
I will admit, he's not my favorite looking guy (not even close), but give him a chance! Everything will be cool.
P.S. if they're going to choose a Jacob, my personal favorite is Steven Strait. He's HOT!!!! =D
(It might seem a bit odd though; Jacob would have the center stage if he was acted out by Steven Strait...he's just way better looking than Rob... but it would be so COOL to have him as Jacob!)
Robert Pattinson is okay. But Gaspard Ulliel would be much 'Perfect' as Edward Cullen, the thing is I've never seen him act yet. I saw Robert act (HP) he's good for a newkid. I agree, it's how they act that matters and the script. I hope they won't cut scenes in twilight like what happened in Harry Potter. Seriously, I can imagine Robert and Kristen as Edward and Bella, they are good. 'They are the perfect combination'

Okay I'm okay with Robert Pattinson being Edward but I DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF KRISTEN STEWART playing as Bella. I wanted Danielle Panabaker to be Bella! To tell the truth almost the whole cast of Twilight is disappointing to me....The people that they chosen do not look like anything that I pictured it.
Okay....another thing that I must add is that I want Steven Strait to play Jacob...He is like the perfect Jacob

When i first heard Edaward was going to play the role i was very sad. I hadn't really made up a character for Edward while i was reading..i just thought of him as this amazingly attractive, dangerous, guy. I believe Robet Pattison will surprise us all...he was casted for a reason.

i think robert pattinson IS an edward. I've always imagined him (edward) to have, like, definite features and robert has 'em. When i first saw him (robert) in the harry potter film, i readily thought he was handsome. Now, after seeing his performance in the vanity fair alternate ending, the pictures of the cullen family and the picture of him and kristen stewart, i think he's ready to be that god-like creature that we've all fantasized about!
Well, i guess this is a matter of opinion, but i think he will be fine. Edward is supposed to have a bit of an english accent, robert pattinson is pretty hot, and anywayz, its hollywood, so i shouldn't matter anywayz.

As soon as i found out he was playing Edward in the movie, i reread the books, i didn't struggle at all to visualize Rob and Kristen. I think hes pretty hot and sexy - in this dark, misterious way (which is exactly what a vampire should look like. If u havent seen other pics of Mr. Pattison look for others because sadly the one they have here is a pretty bad picture of him.

What is this!?!?!?!? The Robert Pattinson Hate club!! I think Robert Pattinson is an AMAZING actor who I enjoy to watch on screen. He portrays the character he is playing with great enthusiasm and is a natural at what he does. Ofcoarse he doesn't fit Edward perfectly.....nobody ever could!!! Edward is a fictional character who's image varies from mind to mind!!!! Realy...... if they tried to caste a person who fit everyones image of Edward perfectly it would take forever and quiet frankly ....it can't be done. Books are written to give your imagination a workout and although the writer might use a ton of description when writeing a scene......everyone is going to imagine a different shade of red or different curves in the mountains and valleys or even the way the light makes a shadow across a vase. Every scene can't be adjusted to fit your imagination perfectly. Think about it for a minute. Don't you think that acting as Edward has got to be one of the hardest roles to play. I mean come on....He's got to play the role of a perfectly flawless teenage vampire who takes your breath away and makes you lose you train of thought just by looking at him. It's pretty hard to find someone like that and if you don't think he would be a good choice now.....go and look up a picture of what he's going to look like in the movie and I guarantee that your opion will be altered imediately. If you are mainly watching the movie or reading the books because you think edward is hot then you aren't realy soaking in all the exhilarateing action that leaves your heart beating fast and counting down the seconds till the next release date.
I think that Robert pattinson is fine as heck!! He matches all the characteristics for Edward. He has the gorgeouse high cheek bones and a perfectly square jaw line....i have to admitt...i'm gonna miss the naturaly blushed cheeks tho when they put the makeup on him. Half of you that are whineing about not likeing the cast have never realy seen any of their movies that they've played in so your kinda being stubborn about this whole thing. i know there are gonna be some nasty comments following this about what I've said so i'm realy only writeing this to try and persuade you not to let yourself get so caught up in little fantasies and try to see it thru the director or the authors eyes. And don't prejudge someone work because you don't like who they are. they could just stop and not make a movie at all ....but....then you'd just complain about that too.

well what can i say? i've read a lot of the comments left by fans like me and yea i was disappoited to see the casting. i expected edward to be played by someone else (and no gaspard ulliel doesnt fit the part perfectly..sorry to say) kristen..well cant complain..i guess we all just have the image of robert as cedric in harry potter that its hard for us to see him play edward..i will still go see the movie and then ill give it a thumbs up or down..till then ill live with the cast...

Either way, who ever would have played Edward was going to do an amazing job at it simply because they are paid to do so.
Hmmm, I think Robert would be a good 'Edward'. Come on, Robert is a great actor, Yeah Gaspard is 'HOT' and 'Edward-like' but we can't argue with Stephenie Meyer's decision, she's the author, she's the one who created the fictional character-Edward, so she should know who would be the best to portray the role (Edward). And you guys should see their photos while filming, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart looks good together, they were like the perfect Edward and Bella, besides, Robert have changed a lot since their first shooting, he's much like Edward now. He really changed a lot, I admit, I didn't like him before, when he played the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire, especially when I've seen his pictures during their premieres. But I still like how he acts.

no one can look exactly like how Stephenie described him. hes pretty freakin awesome and u people need to give him a chance. dont judge his acting abilites or how much alike he sounds to Stephenie's description of edward before u even get to see him act! hes gonna be perfect. i've seen videos of him acting before (no not just as cedric diggory) but behind the scenes of Twilight and hes awesome. he takes this job seriously because its a great book thats soon to be a great movie. i'll be one of the first people in line on december 12 and i will cheer insanely loud when i first see robert playing edward in the movie. just give him a chance to show us all that he can play this part perfectly and he will do it better than henry cavil or n e 1 else. besides...if they end up doing new moon and eclipse, its gonna take a couple of years to film both of those and henry cavil or n e 1 else will be too old to play edward by then. and vampires r suppossed to be immortal. they had to choose a young actor and there robert was ready to act and he was perfect. and all his pics do him justice.

Hello. I would just like to say to all those out there who think that Robert Pattinson is not the right choice for Edward Cullen are absolutely insane! Go to his fansite and look at the pictures that have been taken of him on set, and then you may change your mind. Also, why the heck would you want Gaspard to play Edward...UM NO! not a good choice.(no disrespect to him, as he would be perfectly fine as any other character in any other movie) So overall i would like to say that I completely support the entire twilight cast(Especially Rob and Kristin) and that i know they will all do amazing. For all of you who say otherwise, guess what?-too bad. It is how it is and I hope that you can come to terms with this fact and actually appreciate Stephanie's choices, as she was the one who created this magical novel and let us experience it.

and by the way robert pattison may not be quite as fit but he is an amazing actor PLUS he is british so will have a LUSH british accent which believe me is absolutely gorgeous and i cant imagine edward with an american voice - yuk. and he actually is very nice indeed, if youve seen any trailers for twilight you will real;ise that in the film he doesnt look anything like this less than flattering image (look up!!)
can i also add that kristen is a really good actress to play bella and like some of you have said - stephenie is really pleased with the castings. cough robert pattison cough
