Chow Yun Fat is the latest actor to sign on for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming live-adaptation of the hit manga Dragonball. The actor has agreed to take on the role of Master Roshi and joins Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum and Jamie Chung on the film.
Master Roshi is Goku (the film’s hero) mentor and helps him achieve the highest state of fighting and spiritual powers. Goku (Chatwin) is the warrior who protects the Earth from the bad guys bent on dominating the universe and taking control of the mystical Dragon Balls, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is being directed by James Wong with Stephen Chow producing. It is shooting in Mexico City and Los Angeles. Wong also wrote the script – which saw Ben Ramsey handle an earlier draft.
The film is based on the popular manga by Akira Toriyama. The series has had global success with graphic novels, a TV series, and a video game franchise.
