Emmy Rossum has signed on as the female lead for 20th Century Fox's upcoming Dragonball – which is based on the popular Japanese manga.
Variety reports Rossum will take on the role of Bulma and joins a growing cast which already features Justin Chatwin as the film’s hero Goku and James Marsters as its villain Lord Piccolo.
In the film, Bulma’s father has his Dragon Ball stolen by Piccolo. Goku is a warrior who protects the Earth from the bad guys bent on ruling the universe. The film is based on the popular manga by Akira Toriyama. The series has had global success with graphic novels, a TV series, and a video game franchise.
The film is set to shoot in Mexico and Los Angeles. Stephen Chow is producing the movie with Final Destination’s James Wong handling directing duties. Wong also wrote the script – which saw Ben Ramsey handle an earlier draft.
Rossum has appeared in the remake of Poseidon and the screen adaptation of the musical The Phantom of the Opera. She is also a singer with a recently release studio album – ‘Inside Out.’
