Variety reports Jackass 2.5 will be a mixture of new content and footage from Jackass 2. It will debut on Dec. 19th exclusively on the net – hosted by Blockbuster.
Jackass 2.5 will be the first major studio funded flick (it is produced by Paramount Digital Entertainment and MTV New Media) to debut online and stream for free with ads.
The project has been in the planning stages for 18 months and started when MTV Films production veteran David Gale took the executive VP new media and specialty film content position at MTV Networks.
In Variety, Gale stated: "This is the first major project that we're launching under that initiative. It's in the vein of 'Kill Bill' 1 and 2. After shooting 'Jackass Number 2,' we had more than one movie. So, we shot some new stuff (in September) and added some of that new content."
Jackass 2.5 will be the first major Internet deal for Blockbuster since the $6.6 million purchase of download store Movielink in August, and there is hope Jackass 2.5 will help promote other online movie download and DVD rental titles.
The deal could anger WGA members who have launched a writers strike partly due to wanting a gain in online revenues. Jackass isn’t affected by the strike since it has no credited writers.
