Variety reports Nousiainen (from the Finnish hit Restless) will handle the role of Finnish military leader and president Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The movie has a budget of 10 million Euros ($14.7 million) – which will make it the most expensive film ever made in Finland.
The project is set to start shooting in 2008 with a targeted release date of Nov. 30, 2009. The release date is timed with the anniversary of the “Winter War” between Russia and Finland.
The movie was written by Heikki Vihinen and is being produced by Markus Helim’s Solar Films. It will mark the first time Harlin has tackled a Finnish-language film. His feature film debut, Born American, was shot in Finland, but featured an English-speaking cast.
