Disney Feature Animation have announced its upcoming Bolt (previously titled American Dog) will receive a digital 3-D release when it opens Nov. 26, 2008. Disney has also announced plans to release a 3-D digital film of Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour - which will play in theaters Feb. 1-7.
In The Hollywood Reporter, Disney president of domestic distribution Chuck Viane stated: "We are going to have fun family 3-D at Thanksgiving. We absolutely believe in the whole concept of 3-D and the enhancement that it brings in the ability to separate us from any of the other mediums."
Disney has been a pioneer in the digital 3-D world with releases like Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. The studio has also signed Burton to a two-picture deal with Disney to direct and produce 3-D features of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Burton's short Frankenweenie.
Bolt will feature John Travolta and Susie Essman providing voices for the film. Its plot follows a TV star dog named Bolt (Travolta) who is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York, where he begins a cross-country journey through the real world. The film is directed by Chris Williams.
The Hannah Montana release is scheduled to hit about 700 screens, but could be expanded.
