More bad news from the WGA strike fallout.
United Artists' announcement on Friday night that the studio has postponed production on Oliver Stone's "Pinkville" about the 1968 Vietnam war My Lai massacre was because of the writers strike.
Oliver Stone and writer Mikko Alanne are WGA members and couldn't make the revisions on their script which was not ready.
UA didn't want them to cross the line and neither did they," an unnamed UA source shared with Nikki Finke on her Deadline Hollywood blog.
This caused some issues between Oliver Stone and star Bruce Willis, allegedly the two "had strong words Thursday and Friday."
The other bad news was that the cast and crew had been hired and a start date of December 10 in Thailand for a 3-month shoot.
Some were already there and now Finke reports that the Thai government is being notified, sets struck, hotels reservations cancelled.
Finke noted that the loss of money for a "fledgling studio" that's part of a "troubled major" was more bad news from the WGA strike.
Another element not mentioned was the current trend of war movies not selling these days. There’s enough tragedy on the evening news and no one wants to spend hard earned money on more of it.
