Kathy Bates has signed on to join Michelle Pfeiffer and Ashton Kutcher for the dramatic romance film Personal Effects. Bates is set to play Kutcher’s mother in the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Hollander is directing the film for Insight Studios with production set to start this month in Vancouver. Hollander also wrote the movie.

In the film, Kutcher stars as a young man after vengeance for the murder of his sister. When he arrives in town, his quest is sidetracked by an older woman (Pfeiffer) nursing emotional damages similar to his own.

The film is being produced by Gil Netter along with Insight's Kirk Shaw, Tadora's Christian Arnold-Beutel and CineFilm's Tim McGrath.
