Lionsgate signs up for two more Tyler Perry films

Lionsgate acquired rights to the next two Tyler Perry projects - The Family That Preys Together and Madea Goes to Jail. The deal will be the sixth and seventh team-up between Perry and Lionsgate. Perry also handled writing chores on the film.For Madea Goes to Jail, Perry will handle directing duties and once again portray the title character. The film will be an adaptation of Perry’s play which follows Madea’s life after she spends the night in jail.In The Hollywood Reporter, Perry praised his relationship with Lionsgate and stated: “An artist couldn't ask for a better home than Lionsgate; they're respectful, supportive and loyal to a fault. They've given me room to tell the stories I want to tell, the way I want to tell them.”Perry and Lionsgate have a history of success with films like Why Did I Get Married? -which opened at No. 1 at the box office last month with $21.4 million. Their next collaboration will be Meet the Browns. The film opens March 21st and stars Perry and Angela Bassett. It is based on Perry’s stage play.
