Mark Wahlberg joins Lovely Bones

Los Angeles - Mark Wahlberg has replaced Ryan Gosling in the Peter Jackson-directed movie The Lovely Bones, Variety reported Monday.

Bailey / PR PhotosIn the adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel, Wahlberg will play the role of Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a young girl. That role was vacated Friday by Ryan Gosling due to creative differences, according to Variety. After reading the script, Wahlberg quickly committed Sunday and joins Rachel Weisz as part of a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches from heaven over her family and her killer. Jackson wrote the script with his 'The Lord of the Rings' partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The film began shooting Monday in Pennsylvania.
