The biggest talk is of a low-key star who has been on a slow boil for the last few years, since "Hidalgo," and "A History of Violence."
Viggo Mortensen is delicious, masculine and rugged, yet completely in touch with his "anima", and his inner mind. He has delivered the most layered and complex performances of any leading man in the last decade.
His fans knew this already, but a whole new legion of devotees have come to the party, after seeing the fit actor fight for five minutes in a steam room against some nefarious characters.
He is mesmerizing.
The buzz in Hollywood is that Mortensen is a front runner for an Oscar, and many production moguls believe he can open a picture on par with some other well-paid actors that dominate the box office.
Canadian director David Cronenberg's latest film "Eastern Promises" will open the 55th San Sebastian film festival in Madrid.
His latest film is a tale of London's criminal underworld starring Australian actress Naomi Watts and the talk of the cinematic world, American actor Viggo Mortensen.
A total of 16 films will vie for the festival's Golden Shell award at the event, which is the oldest and most prestigious film festival in the Spanish-speaking world.
Winners are to be announced on September 29th.
