Weinstein Co. casting for musical 'Nine'

Penelope Cruz (pictured), Marion Cotillard and Javier Bardem are in talks to star in the forthcoming Weinstein Co. musical 'Nine.' © Glenn Harris / PhotorazziAccording to Variety director Rob Marshall is also looking to land Sophia Loren and Catherine Zeta-Jones.Bardem would play director Guido Contini, a man having a creative and personal crisis as he tries to juggle all the women in his life. These include his wife, mistress, agent, muse and his mother.Cruz would play his mistress, Carla and Cotillard would play his wife, Louisa.Michael Tolkin is adapting the script, with music and lyrics provided by Maury Yeston.Tolkin was reportedly attracted to the job due to his love of Italian post-war cinema, with the original Broadway production being based on Fellini's autobiographical '8 1/2.'Harvey Weinstein said Tolkin was ideal for the job. "Michael's unique understanding of show business and the creative process will help create a clever and sexy film," he told the trade.Rob Marshall will produce and direct.
