I really enjoy the Bourne films, as I have the books that led to them but there would be no Bourne if it weren't for the success of Fleming's Bond series. The cast and crew of 'The Bourne Supremacy' would do well to remember this.
Now that the Producers of the 007 films have taken steps to bring the character back to it's literary roots the Bond films are very contemporary, offering just as much realism as Ludlums series.
In short; stick to the acting Mr.Damon, you don't seem to be in the know about anything else.
wrong mr tone.
matt damon was right or else why would
they choose a blonde haired bond and
make casino royale a poor mans'imitation
to the bourne series.
Right on Mr Bourne:James Bonds is a heaping pile of horse dung..but its British and therefore it is has to be the best..right??
It never ceases to amaze me the self important ramblings of directors and actors when they dissect their characters for us mere mortals. 'essence and truth' if you please. Bourne is a high quality action flick no more no less. Like bond it exists to entertain. Enlighten?? I think not.
I am a bond fan and love the films as they are - from connery to brosnan (dalton, maybe). To say that the new film 'casino royale' is grittier - one can only imagine that they got the inspiration from the bourne series. Craig (whatever his name is) would get spanked silly (no use of guns -just a good old fashioned fist fight)by the far superior bourne - no matter how much craig can take it hard on the n#*!s !!!
It was the success of the Bourne series which injected new life into the Bond series ...
tone, you would do well to rememeber that.
Casino Royale took so many pointers from the Bourne action style it was almost amusing to watch ... not discounting Royale though, I still enjoyed it a lot. They did a good job.
Bourne vs Bond....... no comparison. I thoroughly enjoyed the latest Bond and it's gritty realism, but I cant help feeling that if the Bourne series hadn't been made then we would still be looking at a 60's throwback and some dodgy cliches. Matt Damon gets my vote everytime!
That's true enough.
Doesn't mean bond films aren't great though! (except the last two before Casino Royale 2, those were dire)
Bourne kicks some ass! or arse.
Well, lets see: the Bourne books were complete and total rubbish. Musta read the first one almost 20 years ago - which I would say makes it anchored in the past. So I don't think I'll be bothering shelling out any of my plentiful dosh to go and watch the movie.
James Bond owns Jason Bourne. He is almost the complete opposite of Bourne too. He's good looking, has gadgets, has any woman he wants, and well he's just better than that ugly Matt Damon.
oh please!
I actually like the bourne series a lot, as it is a modern, albeit american, version of the age old spy series that Ian Fleming inmortalised, but let's not lose focus and remember bourne is a nice twist on a classic, the classic being bond; not enough of a genre in itself to go round dissing the greatest spy franchise ever made...
especially when
1) James Bond would never wear Prada
2) no gadgets? so what did bourne use to clone a SIM card in the very first bourne
3) bourne may not be a misogynitst, but he and Matt Damon obviously both need to get laid more :-)

I agree with Matt completely and totally. Good for him for having the guts to say it out loud.
