Actor Ed Harris prepares to direct Western drama, "Appaloosa" and will star with Viggo Mortensen and Renee Zellweger.

"Appaloosa," has Harris directing from the screenplay he co-wrote with Robert Knott. New Line will distribute and Michael London is producing via his Groundswell Prods., which is co-financing the film according to Variety.
Production is set to start October 1 in New Mexico, giving New Line a project to shoot before a looming potential strike by actors next summer.
Variety notes that Harris and Mortensen are once again working together, they worked on New Line's "A History of Violence."
The film is adapted from Robert B. Parker's novel of the same name, centered on a pair of friends hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher. The arrival of a comely widow disrupts their plans, according to Variety.
This is the second film that Harris has directed, his first being "Pollock." IMDB lists his upcoming films as "Gone Baby Gone," "The Cleaner" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."
Zellweger will be seen in "Leatherheads" and "Case 39."
