Keira Knightley has been cast in Pathe and BBC Films' 'The Duchess.'
Variety reports Knightley will play the 18th century aristocrat Georgiana, duchess of Devonshire.
The film is based on Amanda Foreman's best-selling biography of the royal, who has been called the Princess Diana of her period.
Her extravagant and promiscuous life was said to be full of intrigue and romance, with the duchess becoming a powerbroker but also running up huge gambling debts.
Jeffrey Hatcher wrote the script.
