Please!!!!! Do not ever put JD in the same sentence as Angelina Jolie. She is definitely not at ALL in the same caliber as JD. I will forgive you this time but, don't let it happen again. Ha..Ha... How about putting a new face in this movie, someone fresh..and not the same old faces. Give someone else a chance to strike success!!!! Grrrr.....

we are old dark shadows fans in my family its ran for three generations we love johhny depp we was hoping a blond beauty like reese witherspoon or alicia silverstone, drea barrymore or even sarah michelle from buffy would play more wickedly as angelique yeah looks isn't everything but we really like the blond hair beauties, just the way angellique was in our day.. Lara parker is a pretty lady by far so should the new angelique be breathtaking some of the ladies just don't seem right if yah ask me.

Yeah, that is actually my name. My mom got it from the original Dark Shadows, and she and I are very excited about the new movie. She told me about the show throughout my childhood, and I watched the repeats when they were on Sci-fi a few years ago. Johnny Depp would be perfect in the role of Barnabas, especially considering that he already knows the part; he isn't just some actor that came along and had to read the script to figure out who the character is. I don't know who I'd like as other characters, though. I just hope that they do the show justice and that the movie won't be just a remake of the other movie that they made in the 70's.

Again, Please do not think for a minute that Angelina Jolie is good for this part. Don't get me wrong, she has her moments where she is really good but by no means is she comparable or worthy enough to play the opposite of Johnny Depp. I think that although Christina Ricci would be excellent in that role, she has had her light with Johnny Depp. Someone like a blonde Liv Tyler would be awesome here. Or again somebody that is new but born talent. I am sick of seeing the same old faces in this business, send us some one new to appreciate. Someone who is JD worthy. Definitely NOT Angelina Jolie. Johnny Depp is too special for Angelina Jolie.

I have loved 'Dark Shadows' since I got hooked on the original series. My mom forbade me to watch it so, for the first time in my life, I lied to her and told her I was next door helping my friend with housework (that probably tipped her off). And we watched it everyday. So I showed it to my daughter and now there are two Shadows lovers. And we both really love Johnny Depp! We are there opening night. I don't care who plays the women in Barnabas' lives, I just want to watch Johnny!!

Dark Shadows will always be my favorite television show as a kid and as an
adult. If the writers do this right, they should tell the love story of Barnabas and Josette (Angelina Jolie). Angelique Josette's maid had a love affair with Barnabas and this the reason Angelique loathes Josette. The story can continue with Josette's journey to Collinsport and to the Old House the family manor. The rest of the 1795 story can be played with
Barnabas'loss of his younger sister Sarah do to Angelique. The family saga continues with the 1795 storyline. Joshua (his father) can be seen chaining the coffin that holds Barnabas prisoner for over 175 years.

Collinwood in the present finds Willie Loomis snooping around the family mausoleum and secret door that leads to Barnabas tomb. Thinking there are family jewels buried there, he opens the coffin to his horror discovers
Barnabas Collins a vampire.
Barnabas then visits Collinwood and introduces himself as a long lost cousin bearing a striking resemblence to his name sakeis portrait. Barnabas finds himself in the 21st century and free.
The end.
A definite sequel could continue the story.

I am thrilled to hear that Johnny Depp has bought Dark Shadows. I can hardly imagine the level of excitement and interest this will bring to the original series, its cast and new book and audio series.
Johnny Depp has long been on record as a huge Dark Shadows fan -- like Madonna, Tim Burton, Stephen King, Anne Rice and so many others who have dramatically impacted our culture since then. Johnny has said that he was obsessed with the show as a child and that his lifelong dream has been to play Barnabas Collins ...

My partner Eric G. and I co-host a 1-hour radio program for the American Radio Network every Saturday night called 'The Alchemist's Playground.' On Saturday, August 11th at 9 PM PST we will be interviewing Lara Parker (Angelique from the original show and author of two recent fiction books about Dark Shadows - 'Angelqiue's Descent' and 'The Salem Branch') in the studio on KCLA-FM 99.3 in Hollywood -- it is also broadcast on the Internet at kclafm dot com. We will surely be talking about this latest development in the saga of Dark Shadows - as well as her book series, of course.

I agree with MickeyMonkers that I am as well sick of the same actors and actresses. I think Angelina Jolie is evil enough to play the part of Angelique, but the actors on the original series were not well known actors until after the sucess of the show with the exceptions of Joan Bennett and Grayson Hall. I would like for people to take these roles because they loved the show and not just because it is another movie they can make money off of.

I am incredibly overjoyed that Johnny Depp is going to give new life to this legendary story that refuses to die and fade away! With Depp's personal vision and love for the series, he will indeed bring DS to a new level that has not yet been reached.

Depp as Barnabas Collins will be superb. The important thing is casting the right co-stars. The characters' shoes they step into are big ones and they have to be a perfect fit to do honor to these roles. No teenagers or model starlets! I agree that Angelina Jolie or Uma Thurmond would be great as Angelique. I can't wait to sit in a theater and be taken back to Collinwood and the Collins family once more...especially the one that Depp will be giving us.

Shirley McClain as Julia Hoffman would be more convincing than the real thing. Matthew McConnaughy would make the perfect Roger Collins. Jude Law as Quentin Collins is a sure bet. Not another remake, nothing can beat the original with its flaws, mistakes and actors forgetting their lines. This may succeed with Johnny Depp and his fans. Personally speaking I think Russell Crowe would make a better Barnabas Collins. Uma thurman as Angelique. I already have it cast. Hopefully they will do justice to Dan Curtis. The remake in 1990 was pretty awful with the exception of Ben Cross and Joanna Going.
I just can't imagine a Dark Shadows movie, it will be like I Love Lucy without Lucille Ball.

I'm a big Dark Shadows fan, but I'm not a fan of the current trend of Hollywood remakes. The thought of all of these celebritards whose names people have been throwing around on here playing my favorite Dark Shadows characters makes me want to gag. This might work if it was cast with unknowns, but most people aren't going to see this as a Dark Shadows movie. They will be looking at it as a Johnny Depp movie, and I don't think that does D.S. the justice it deserves.

First, for Angelique, you need a REAL beauty
Sorry--Reese Witherspoon with her pointy chin and pouty face IS NOT a beauty I personally do not think she is much of an actress
Nicole Kidman is too tall and looks too weird
I say go with an unknown who can act
Or look in the UK for a beautiful young woman
Or get Cate Blanchette She could do it
Christina Ricci is beautiful AND can act but is too short
Angelina Jolie might work She is beautiful
I don't think you will ever find a woman as beautiful as Lara Parker though
I hope they use the original Collinwood--which still stands in Newport, R.I.--although it doesn't look quite the same But digitization can work wonders
How about getting Maggie Smith for Elizabeth Collins Stoddard?

To play Barnabas with the class and dignity in which Jonathon Frid did will be tough. Johnny Depp could do it - I just hope the movie is more about content and drama, and less about gore and violence. Nicole Kidman would be the perfect Angelique - she has the eyes that can hynotise, suduce and burn right through you. There were so many great story lines it would be hard to choose which one to consentrate on. I was a big fan of the 1846 story with Gerard Stile, but I am sure they won't do that one. I also loved the 1896 with the story of Quentin turning into a warewolf. Most likely the will choose the Barnabas showing up at Collinwood. An interesting one could be the storyline where Cassandra (aka Angelique) come to Collinwood while Barnabas is a recovering vampire. That one would include, the one and only, Nicolas Blair!
Can't wait for the movie. Let's hope they do it right!

For those of us who rushed home from school everyday to enjoy the thrills of vampires, werewolves, witches, and a really creepy minister, the prospect of Dark Shadows with Johnny D. in the role of Barnabas is one that brings great joy to our weary work-a-day lives! And who better to pay appropriate homage to the series than Mr. D. Integrity always. Thankfully Mr. D. remembers his audience and is apt to treat the project with tender loving care. And if Nicole Kidman can bring on the cold and cruel, that would be an excellent pairing. If she can cop the 'deranged smile' of the lead witch - ah, what a franchise. Imagine enjoying some years of Dark Shadows brought back to life in a series of films. Fantastic. Thank you, Mr. Depp.

Someone mentioned Henry Ian Cusick for the role of Barnabas. That makes better sense than Johnny Depp who is not that tall; I don't think that he would be very frightening as a vampire. Mr. Cusick has a Scottish accent, but has played Brits. He would be perfect as 'The Cousin From England'. His character of Desmond also makes me think of Barnabas: that whole angsty business about failure, unrequited love, and loss. And, like the original actor who played his heart out as the doomed Barnabas, Mr. Cusick will bring a sense of romanticism to the role. I am very fond of the elegant, well-mannered, and imposing Barnabas as played by Mr. Frid, and feel that Mr. Cusick would be an outstanding choice for this charming vampire.

DARK SHADOWS FAN/CONVENTION WORKERApr 25th, 2008 - 00:24:47

I love Dark Shadows myself growing up. I was also involved helping at the Dark Shadows Convention when it first started called ShadowCon. It was a very fun time before Dark Shadows Festival stepped in later then things were not the same. The quality was lost. When they tried to remake Dark Shadows with Ben Cross, I already knew it wasn't going to last, something was lost/missing.
I very much have to agree, I believe Johnny Depp could pull it off playing Barnabas Collins. He would have more personality that Ben Cross was missing. I believe he could play the part as well as have that distinctive look. He has very much matured in th movie industry. The tricky question is, who to play Angelique and Josette and the etc. Some Veterans of the Entertainment industry would help. The female who played Angelique with Ben Cross was too girly, like someone just acting the part. Lara Parker was not only beautiful but exotic to some degree.

Now the question is, do we start over from the beginning or take off where they left off? Last I remember is Bramwell and Angelique in parallel time ended up together. Do they get married and have a child that comes back with special gifts. Do this child meet her father in the other time whom turns out to be her real father that is now a vampire again. I mean you could turn this into whatever, if it is played right.

Hopkin who was mentioned to play Roger Collins could very well be a possibility as he is a veteran of the Entertainment industry and looks like he could be believed. Some of the so called mentioned Buffy, Alice Silverstone, and the etc. I think would be very weak for something like this.

Well that is my 2cents worth. I like to see it succeed. OH HOW I FELL IN LOVE WITH BARNABAS AND THE FUN I HAD AT THE CONVENTION. DRESSING UP AND THE ETC.

Depp doesn't have the hollow cheek gaunt look that a vampire needs. His face is just too boyish, not craggy and ancient-looking. Jonathan Frid of the original series set the mold for the look that any new casting should follow, so as to not disappoint the huge number of old fans. Daniel Craig comes to mind with his gaunt good looks. Watch Craig and picture him as a Barnabas... it's perfect. Depp could reprise his Sleepy Hollow role as a doctor type figure and play Dr. Stokes in this new remake.

I agree someone with blond hair should be Angelique and not Jolie

Oh, my goodness! I am a big time original DS fan who loved Jonathan Frid's interpretation of the doomed vampire. I am also a fan of Henry Ian Cusick from Lost. Those of you who see him as the alternative choice for the role of Barnabas Collins are spot on. Cusick has it all and would be excellent in the role should Mr. Depp opt out. As much as I like Mr. Depp, I don't think he is quite that intimidating; but, then, I haven't seen Sweeney Todd, either. Mr. Blake Ritson would be another excellent choice; saw him on You Tube in Mansfield Park--really does look like Barnabas! Good choices, ladies.

QUENTIN CASTINGFeb 23rd, 2009 - 02:54:39

The Possibility of who could play QUENTIN could be Colin Firth, (Darcy from Pride and Prejedice) Or David Boreanaz who played Angel from Buffy the Vampire slayer. He is the only one I would recommend from that show.

Henry Ian Cusick as Barnabas? Most definitely! I just saw him in 'The Gospel of John'. What a voice and such magnetism. I agree that 'Desmond' and Barnabas share those angsty, brooding qualities because they are both 'lost'. Yes, yes, to Blake Ritson, too! I've never heard of him until someone on here said to look him up on You Tube. Very intrigued by Daniel Craig, too. Depp will probably get the role, since it's his and Burton's deal, but the guys mentioned above would be great as Barnabas. For Willie: Dom from Lost. Quentin: Josh Holloway or that guy who played Edmund on 'The Guiding Light'. Ben Stokes: that Hurley dude from Lost. Jeremiah could be the doctor on Lost; Julia could be the blonde female doctor. Terry O' Quinn as Sam Evans, artist and drunk. And, last, but not least, my Losties...the guy who plays Ben as the evil Rev. Trask!

Was there ever a more drool worthy vampire than Barnabas Collins? Jonathan Frid had something mesmerizing going on there, didn't he? I'm of the older generation who found him quite attractive and appreciated his gentlemanly manners. Now, I hear that Johnny Depp, also droolicious, is going to don his vampiric cape. I read that he worshipped Barnabas, as played by Mr. Frid, and really knows this character inside and out. I read somewhere that he considers Barnabas as the reason why he became an actor in the first place! If that is so, then he had great taste. If you watch his dark and mysterious movies, like 'From Hell', 'Sleepy Hollow', and 'The Libertine', you'll see shades of Barnabas Collins, as played by Jonathan Frid, throughout. Mr. Frid was a master of subtlety. You can see it in his eyes and how he speaks and carries himself. Johnny Depp studied those traits and I can always tell when he's being like Barnabas, or Mr. Frid, in those darker roles. Why, the other day, while watching 'Donnie Brasco' I saw how Johnny made these facial expressions, particularly with the eyes, and I said, 'Where have I seen those before?' Yep, they were almost identical to Frid's. Therefore, I believe that he will stay true to the character of Barnabas, and be a reflection of his original idol, in the person of the great and gifted stage actor, Mr. Jonathan Frid. This will be a marvelous movie with Depp and Burton at the helm.

The original location would be perfect. The surviving cast can play descendants of the original owner preparing Collinwood to become Boston's historical landmark.
