Julia Roberts receives American Cinematheque award

Julia Roberts has been selected as the recipient of the 22nd American Cinematheque Award, which will be presented Oct. 12 at the Cinematheque's annual benefit gala at the Beverly Hilton.
"Julia Roberts is a true movie star who has delighted audiences and critics in so many pictures, from her first screen appearance in 'Mystic Pizza' through megahits like 'Pretty Woman' and 'Runaway Bride' to her Academy Award-winning performance in 'Erin Brockovich' and many, many more," Cinematheque board chairman Rick Nicita said Monday to the press.
Since 1986, the Cinematheque board of directors selection committee has annually honored an artist, whether actor, director or writer, in the entertainment industry who is fully engaged in his or her work and who is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of motion pictures.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Roberts will apear next in Universal Pictures' "Charlie Wilson's War," directed by Mike Nichols and starring Tom Hanks.
Roberts has been nominated for an Oscar three times, and received the award for her performance as Erin Brokovich.
AMC will air the tribute in December, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
