Gavin Hood has signed on to direct 20th Century Fox's 'X-men' spinoff 'Wolverine.' Hugh Jackman will star in 'Wolverine.' © Glenn Harris / Photorazzi

Hugh Jackman will star in 'Wolverine.' © Glenn Harris / PhotorazziAccording to the Hollywood Reporter the movie, with Hugh Jackman already cast, is aiming for an autumn start.The film, written by David Benioff, will explore the background of the popular comic book character. Wolverine is a mutant with the power to heal himself from even terrible wounds. This ability allowed him to survive a procedure that joined his bones to an unbreakable metal and gave him retractable metal claws.Lauren Shuler Donner and John Palermo are producing the movie with Jackman.
