Zac Efron to star in Footloose remake

Variety is reporting that tweenie heartthrob and Disney Channel star of “High School Musical”, Zac Efron is in talks to star in a Paramount Pictures remake of the Oscar ® nominated (music)1984 movie ‘Footloose.’
Efron will play Ren McCormack, a rebellious teen who relocates to a conservative town where rock music and dancing are banned. Original McCormack role was played by Kevin Bacon.
Original pic, directed by Herb Ross and written by Dean Pitchford will now see Kenny Ortega direct. Rework of ‘Footloose’ will re-team Ortega and Efron who worked together on "High School Musical."
Footloose, already turned into a Broadway show, will return to the big screen as a full-blown musical.
Kenny Loggins and Dean Pitchford were nominated for Best Music/Original Song at the 1985 Academy Awards ®.
