Overture Films, the growing studio arm of Liberty Media's Starz Entertainment pay-TV unit, has picked up all North American rights for ‘Righteous Kill.’
“Kill” to be produced by Millennium Films from a script by Russell Gerwitz, stars the powerful team of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.
Jon Avnet is helming the picture which is costing Millennium $60 million to produce.
This is the second pairing of DeNiro and Pacino, the first in 'The Godfather: Part II' the two actors shared no screen time.
This time around they will be together most of the time as they play detectives tracking a serial killer, while a drug dealer helps them with their investigation.
Reports are that rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is in final negotiations to play the drug dealer.
“Kill" is the fifth project announced by Overture, which is headed up by a host of MGM and UA veterans, including CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett. Overture intends to release eight to 12 pics annually.
It has also greenlit ‘Last Chance Harvey,’ a romance which will pair Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson.
