Martin Scorsese is turning Japanese, toward Japanese history that is.
He is getting set to produce ‘Silence’ based on a novel by the same name written by Shusaku Endo and William Johnston. Scorsese hopes to begin filming in Japan next year.
Movie, which will mirror book, is set in 17 century Japan when Portuguese Christian Missionaries arrived in Japan to try an convert the Japanese to Christianity.
Pundits are already drawing analogies with present day American intervention in Iraq.
Scorsese told the Associated Press, "It raises a lot of questions about foreign cultures coming in and imposing their way of thinking on another culture they know nothing about."
