Emanuele Crialese's tale of Sicilian immigrants to the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century ‘Golden Door’ (‘Nuovomondo’) is getting support from new Oscar © winner Martin Scorsese.
Pic, which opens May 25 in New York and June 1 in L.A., will also kick off San Francisco Film Festival which plays April 20 – May 4.
Distributor Miramax will credit Scorsese as a presenter and will be featured in the film’s marketing materials. Scorsese will also present the movie at the Tribecca Film Festival when it screens next week.
Miramax is making an effort to gain awareness for the Italian entry in the foreign language Oscar race earlier this year. Movie has no characters familiar to American audiences.
Crialese also directed ‘Respiro,’ Sony Pictures Classics' Cannes winner.
