Even though this book was a symbol of the women's liberation movement in the 70's, and coined the term 'the zipless f*ck', it still is relevant and is finally in active development to become a film.
Diane English, according to Fox news, has been selected to write and direct the long simmering project, and she allegedly is keen on Maggie Gyllenhaal to play the lead character Wing.
Fox's Roger Friedman reports that the "saga of making or not making 'Fear of Flying' is one of those Hollywood legends at this point. For years and years, famed producer Julia Phillips ("Taxi Driver," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"), who won an Oscar for "The Sting," tried to make the movie at Columbia Pictures."
English is in full swing writing and directing "The Women" for a July tentative shoot start, the line up includes Meg Ryan, Sigourney Weaver and Candice Bergen. The film is about a wealthy New Yorker who leaves her cheating husband and bonds with other society women at a resort, and is a remake of George Cukor's 1939 film "The Women." Mick Jagger and his Jagged Films shingle are one of the producers.
