Straight from his stint at the Oscars, ‘The Departed,’ best director winner Martin Scorsese will present a Masterclass at the 60th annual Festival de Cannes, festival organizers announced April 4.
Scorsese walked away from Cannes in 1976 with the coveted Palme d’Or for Taxi Driver and was president of the international jury in 1998.
The Masterclass will be held on Thursday May 24 – festival runs May 16 – 27 2007.
Scorsese follows in the footsteps of other auteurs who have been guests of honor such as Stephen Frears, Nanni Moretti, Wong Kar Wai and Sydney Pollack.
He will also present the Camera d’Or to the director of the best first film In Competition during the festivals closing ceremony.
At Cannes, Scorsese will announce the launch of his World Cinema Foundation, devoted to the preservation and restoration of cinematic masterpieces from across the globe.
