International box-office: Bean battles Spartans - Bean wins

Rowan Atkinson once again reprises his role as the hapless Mr Bean, who wins a trip to the South of France in a church raffle. First in the US it was the Spartans vs. the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles (TMNT) and the Ninjas won the battle for top box office spot domestically.
Now on the international scene, Rubber faced Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean fought a courageous battle against ‘300’ Spartans at the box-office this past weekend in international territories and WON!
‘Mr. Bean’s Holiday’ knocked ‘300’ from the number one spot, taking in $12.7 million from 515 screens in Bean’s native UK alone. “Holiday” led in 21 of 24 territories nabbing $34.2 million.
This was the second week of Bean’s release having first opened with an initial $2.32 million take from two territories. Total cume to date is $36.5 million.
It also posted year-to-date highs in Germany ($5.6 million form 845 screens) and Australia ($3.1 million from 257).
Nearly ten years ago Holiday’s predecessor ‘Bean’ grossed $205.9 million by the end of its run.
Putting up a noble battle in its fourth week of release ‘300’ grossed $31.7 million from 52 overseas markets giving it a total cume to date of $128 million.
Two new markets were opened this weekend, Brazil where it took in $2.7 million – the highest ever for a +16 rated pic and Argentina at $762,000.
